The virtual background feature has been temporarily disabled in version 122 of the Chromium browser. The feature will be reactivated once an update from Google is available. This is due to the following issue: https://chromium-review.googlesource.com/c/chromium/src/+/5328768
Hotfix on since Google has fixed the bug, the feature can be activated again in Chromium browser versions from 122.0.6261.111.

Reduction of resources used such as CPU and bandwidth on the client side
Depending on the available CPU cores, fewer tiles are displayed in the grid view than before
Depending on the generally available resources, the resolution and number of FPS of the tiles is adjusted
Fixed bugs that could cause other participants' streams to "freeze" when someone shared their screen
