Question

Is it safe to change the username of a ProCall user
For example, in the case of a name change after marriage.

Answer

When using the users from Active Directory, the user name can be changed in AD.

If a file-based user administration is used, the username cannot be changed. Instead, a new user must be created.

The username is a key field for login/login!
Changes
to the username affect previous settings for the user and the availability of journal and contacts.

When the username is changed, this is a new user for ProCall Enterprise. i.e.:

  • All settings in the UCServer regarding the old user will be lost.
  • The journal of the old user is no longer visible as its own journal (but in the group journal, if all users are allowed to see the journal entries among themselves - under global settings). A possible solution for this problem is mentioned under the following article: No more journal entries after changing the user name.
  • Contacts in the monitor and favorites on the client that are not administratively specified must be added again.

First name, last name and display name are informative fields, the change of which does not affect the registration.

User management

Active Directory user management

If user management is handled through Active Directory, the change must be implemented in Active Directory.

Be sure to disable the old user in UCServer administration.

If the old user still appears after the change (e.g. in a phone number search or in the ProCall monitor), please follow this support article → Deactivated Active Directory objects remain visible in Favorites or the monitor

User management UCServer file-based

If the user administration is file-based, i.e. handled by the UCServer itself, the user name for the login cannot be changed. The user must be newly created for this purpose.
