Task

How to increase the availability of AD connectivity when there are multiple replicated Microsoft Active Directory servers?

Specialist knowledge required

  • This guide is intended for experienced IT administrators with knowledge of Active Directory (AD management).

Implementation

Active Directory domain name

When configuring the connection in MetaDirectory or ProCall Enterprise, specify the Active Directory domain name instead of a single Active Directory server.

If the DNS zone for the domain is configured by default, all Active Directory servers are resolved under the domain name.

FQDN

If you want to use certain replicated Active Directory servers, create multiple DNS entries with the same hostname or FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain Name) with reference to the different servers you want to use.
When configuring the connection in MetaDirectory or ProCall Enterprise, specify the corresponding FQDN instead of a single Microsoft Active Directory server.

Round-robin DNS/Load balancing and availability

If the connection to a Microsoft Active Directory server fails, the connection to the next available Microsoft Active Directory server is established. ("round-robin").
