estos MetaDirectory 6 Enterprise

estos MetaDirectory 5 Enterprise

The estos MetaDirectory can make the entire replicated database available via the LDAP interface.

To integrate estos MetaDirectory as a STARFACE address book, an LDAP connection to estos MetaDirectory is set up in the STARFACE telephone system administration.

To set up an LDAP directory as a STARFACE address book, refer to the applicable STARFACE documentation, e.g. LDAP-Anbindung eines Adressbuches konfigurieren. LDAP-Anbindung eines Adressbuches konfigurieren.

According to the estos MetaDirectory product documentation Configuration: Phone books can be integrated via the MetaDirectory phone books for a non-personalized search. However, since data from phone books is not replicated in the MetaDirectory database, phone book data cannot currently be queried from a STARFACE address book.

Technical background

Phone books are not searched for VirtualListView and PagedResults requests to the server. The corresponding phone book connections do not support such extensions.

LDAP attributes of the STARFACE address book layout

estos MetaDirectory provides numerous LDAP attributes. These are listed in the product documentation: LDAP Servers and Fields..

In order to be able to use the desired estos MetaDirectory data in the STARFACE address books, the desired LDAP attributes (data fields) for the list view and the contact detail view are selected in the STARFACE address book configuration – layout.

The names of the LDAP attributes cannot be changed either on the estos MetaDirectory side or on the STARFACE address book configuration side:

  • estos MetaDirectory provides the LDAP attributes according to the product documentation (see LDAP Servers and Fields) and
  • The STARFACE address book connection offers a selection of predefined LDAP attributes in the layout configuration.

So that the STARFACE address book can retrieve data from the estos MetaDirectory, only those LDAP attributes may be used which exist both in the LDAP client (STARFACE address book) and in the LDAP server (estos MetaDirectory). Of the 23 LDAP attributes offered for selection in the STARFACE address book layout, only 13 LDAP attributes also exist in estos MetaDirectory, 10 LDAP attributes cannot be used because they are not offered in estos MetaDirectory.

estos MetaDirectory field mapping

Of course, many different field contents can be loaded into estos MetaDirectory using the replicators.

However, if data is imported into fields that correspond to LDAP attributes that are not offered in STARFACE Address Book Configuration – Layout, these cannot be used on the STARFACE side.

For example, the Primary key (LDAP attribute name entryID) field and Displayed name (LDAP attribute name displayName) are filled in the replicator shown below, but the MetaDirectory LDAP attributes entryID or displayName do not exist on the STARFACE side. A STARFACE address book search will therefore not be able to display data.

However, it can be very useful to fill these LDAP attributes in estos MetaDirectory that cannot be addressed in the STARFACE address book layout in order to enable other LDAP clients to retrieve this data.

Test of access to estos MetaDirectory via LDAP

To verify the correct provision of data by estos MetaDirectory via LDAP, refer to the section Test and analysis tools in the article ProCall Enterprise client as a LDAP client.
